BME Regional Policy Forum

Regional BME Network

The BME Regional Policy Forum is led by One North West, a regional BME Network that brings together BME voluntary and community sector organisations to influence decisions made regionally and
nationally in order to lead to improved outcomes for the sector and the communities they serve.

image-one-north-west-logoThe forum meets on a quarterly basis, in different parts of the region,
focussing on the following topics:

  • Sustainability of the BME voluntary and community sector
  •  Representation of the BME voluntary and community sector and BME women
  • Human Rights
  • Releasing the Potential of BME communities
  • Responding to the Coalition Government's Programme

The last forum met on 8th September 2011 at the Al Ghazali Centre in Liverpool with about 45 members from across the region attending.  A presentation was given by Rob Berkeley from Runnymede Trust on the Open Public Service White Paper followed further discussions took
place in sub groups to look at the impact on the BME Sector.

Dan Silver from One North West will collate and produce a response to the Open Public Service White Paper on behalf of the BME Policy Forum.  However, he emphasised that it was also important to respond as individual members.

In the afternoon the Deaf Education Advocacy Fellowship presented on the issues impacting on the deaf BME community.  This was followed by sub groups discussing the youth disturbances that took place over the summer.  Dan Silver will produce a paper on this which we will share.

Finally, it was good to see two of our members attending: Preston United Development Programme and Lancashire Wide Network.
